Scripture: Colossians 2:2-3
My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, mind so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, see in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Thought for the Day: On this day in 2009, a rare 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Atalante Coupe was found in the garage of a British doctor. A month later, on February 7, the car sold at a Paris auction for some $4.4 million. Bugatti was a small, French company (founded by an Italian). From the time it was founded in 1909 until the early 1940s, it produced fewer than 8000 cars. They were masterpieces of craftsmanship, and often offered cutting-edge technology. In 1947 the company fell into decline, and was purchased by Volkswagen in 1998. VW went on to design the Bugatti Veyron, which currently sells for over $2 million (and goes 0-60 in about 2.5 seconds).
I wonder how many treasures we have hidden away in the garages of our minds and souls, covered up like a classic automobile? The Christ is one of those spiritual treasures—do we actually let the Christ live through us, or do we hide it away in the dark recesses of our minds?
Paul thought spiritual wisdom and knowledge were hidden in Christ (in his most Gnostic line ever written), but Jesus actually reveals the Christ pretty blatantly. Jesus doesn’t go hide in someone’s stable after his birth. He develops his spiritual relationship with God and then tells the world about it. It is time for all of us to uncover the hidden treasures of spiritual wisdom and knowledge we all possess, and become vocal, active participants in a new, global spiritual transformation.
Prayer: With your help, mighty and revealing God, may I discover the Christ hidden within me, have the courage to uncover your spiritual truths, and change the world by first allowing you to change me. Amen.
