Scripture: 2 Peter 1:4
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, click so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Thought for the Day: Nearly everything Jesus teaches is designed to bring us closer to constant relationship with God, to help us realize that God is the ultimate reality in our lives here, now. Jesus wants disciples to fully participate in a God-filled life, and every moment of Jesus’ life is lived to show us how to be in a loving relationship with God, which then puts us in a loving relationship with each other.

How amazing it is to “participate in the divine nature” as Peter so eloquently puts it. For Peter and the rest of the disciples, God is not some ethereal construct, but a very real presence that we feel in our lives. Jesus urges us to not only follow the Christ, but to be the Christ, and this is accomplished by letting God, who surrounds us with love constantly, actually penetrate the walls we put up as an ancient survival instinct.

To paraphrase Pink Floyd, it’s time to tear down the walls.

Prayer: May your divine nature tear down the walls I build around myself, God of hope and joy, so that I will be more open to love, both divine and human. Amen.
