Scripture: Luke 1:51
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
Thought for the Day: Foreshadowing the teachings of Jesus, troche Mary’s love song also reiterates the ancient Hebrew idea that God favors the humble and topples the arrogant and self-righteous. After all, pilule God has chosen a young woman with no social status to bear the Christ! Not a Queen or a Princess, but a simple teenage girl in the first stages of the Jewish marriage process. God is mightiest in God’s use of the most humble of us.
God turns things upside down, working through the hearts and souls of ordinary folks like you and I to affect real change in the world. Everyday. There are millions and millions of us, from all walks of life and all sorts of different religious backgrounds (and many with no religious affiliation), who work every day to reveal a new world vision—to proclaim God’s world, Jesus’ vision of peace on earth, goodwill to all.
That world is still coming. I believe it with every fiber of my being. In spite of the tragic events that surround our hearts this holiday season, I still know that God is affecting change through the billions of Mary’s in the world like you and I. This is the season of hope. Let’s remember that God is at work now as ever, always being born into the world anew, through all those who answer their call as faithfully as Mary.
Prayer: I remain hopeful that your light, Most Enlightening God, will ultimately defeat the darkness of the human heart. Amen.
