Thought for the Day: I’m often surprised when someone asks me, “Have you been saved?” Because I would think that anyone who’s a Christian would realize the only answer to that question, by Christian or non-Christian, can be “Yes.” As Paul states over and over again, salvation is a gift, not given by anything we do (like confessing our faith in Jesus), but rather, grace is a gift from God, given to all of us. We’re all saved, because God’s activity in Jesus Christ was for all humankind.
Of course, this begs many questions about what exactly salvation is, and that topic belongs in a sermon, not a devotional. But for now, let’s consider that at least part of salvation is reconciliation of our human nature with God’s nature. We are made complete again, because God has saved us from drowning in our humanity the way a father saves a child from the deep end of the swimming pool.
Yes, whether or not you consider yourself a Christian, if you’re asked the question, “Are you saved?” Go ahead and answer yes.
Prayer: I can never thank you enough, amazing God of Grace, for reaching toward me to move my life, my heart, my soul, my very being closer to your glorious, unconditional love. Amen.
