Scripture: Psalm 18:32
It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.
Thought for the Day: Through nine years of intense, continuous fighting, Caesar conquers Gaul. He adds what are now France, parts of Switzerland, and the Low Countries to Rome’s control. He advances into Britain, and builds bridges across the Rhine to better defend the new border from Germanic invaders.
Caesar’s bridges are considered masterpieces of military engineering. With 40,000 soldiers at the ready, Caesar builds the first bridge in only ten days. While he could have crossed the Rhine by boat, Caesar’s decision to build bridges displays the military and engineering might of Rome, and Caesar’s ability to cross the Rhine anytime he wished. This display of power and prowess delayed Germanic invasion of the Roman Empire by several centuries.
Prayer: May the bridges I build, Lord, be engineered by you, and lead us all into a world of peace and respect. Amen.
