Scripture: Hosea 7:10
Israel’s arrogance testifies against him, doctor but despite all this he does not return to the Lord his God or search for him.
Thought for the Day: Caesar is born into a patrician family. Although his mother’s family has somewhat more political influence than his father’s, rx neither family would be considered a political force. Caesar’s father died when Julius was just 16, cialis leaving him as head of the household. The following year Caesar becomes high priest of Jupiter. This position demands marriage to another patrician, so Caesar cancels his engagement to a plebian girl and marries Cinna’s daughter Cornelia. (Cinna was a four-time Consul of Rome and a master at concealing his villainy within the framework of the Roman Constitution).
Caesar’s marriage could not come at a worse time. The dictator Sulla (dictator was a position the Senate of the Roman Republic conferred upon a Consul in times of war, and was temporary—usually) was viciously and illegally eliminating most of his political enemies. Because Caesar has married the daughter of one of Sulla’s primary opponents (and for some other perceived familial transgressions), Caesar is targeted for assassination before his political career has even begun. The threat is lifted only by the intervention of his mother’s family and the Vestal Virgins, both strong Sulla supporters.
Still, understanding how Roman politics works, Caesar fears for his life and leaves Rome and his position as priest of Jupiter. He joins the army, and thus begins a career that would ultimately lead him to fame and infamy.
Prayer: God of mercy, God of Grace, keep me humble in my ways and always searching for you in my life, and in the lives of others. Amen.
