Scripture: Psalm 1:1-2 (NRSV)
Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, for sale or take the path that sinners tread, purchase or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, medical and on his law they meditate day and night.

Thought for the Day: In our massively connected society it’s difficult to veer off the mainstream highway onto the road not taken. It’s not easy to have faith, to believe in God, to see mystery in the universe. We live in a world of scoffers.

Our civilizations are indeed incredible. Human advances in medicine, telecommunications and technology have changed the world, arguably for the better. Yet, we still find ourselves disagreeing about whether or not those who have should provide a bit more for those who have not. Developing countries create newfound wealth in the hands of a few, perpetually creating societies of haves and have-nots.

It’s so important in times like this, when humans draw inward, for people of faith—all faiths, to look to God for love and renewal of spirit. Christians look to Christ as an example of how loving humans behave when they’re focused on God, rather than on self. Yes, in times like these, maintaining our focus on God can help veer the entire world off the path of destruction that we tread, and onto the road of universal love and respect found in faith in God.

Prayer: May you continue to guide my life down roads that ultimately lead to you, God most precious, and may the Christ within transform my being into an obedient vessel, filled to overflowing with compassion and mercy. Amen.
