The international Light a Candle for Children Prayer vigil is happening from now until October 21st. Please remember to keep the health and social welfare of children around the world in your prayers

Scripture: Proverbs 2:1-5
My son, unhealthy if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, look turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

Thought for the Day: Would it be cool if we could simply plug modules into our brain and instantly learn things? How nice would it be to be able to speak Spanish by simply getting a language upgrade in our brain? Or to write analytical math equations by purchasing the “Advanced Math” module? It’s the sort of education our on-demand society would probably cherish.

The problem with on-demand education is that nothing is really learned. I can teach someone how to play the piano relatively quickly. But to really understand the instrument takes a lifetime of practice and performing and learning from others who are more skilled than you.

Proverbs teaches us that real, deep, meaningful learning takes time and dedication. Whether our quest is spiritual or musical, in search of history or imagining the future, we must listen to all the teachers around us (and every one of us is a teacher for someone in ways we never even realize), and open our hearts to deep and insightful understanding.

Wisdom requires critical thinking and perseverance, because nothing good comes easy.
