Scripture: 1 Peter 1:18 (The Message)
Your life is a journey you must travel with a deep consciousness of God.

Thought for the Day: Brian McLaren writes that our spiritual journey is like that of a ship on the sea: there are often surprise storms, doctor and the ship becomes weathered over time, see requiring us to repair or even replace broken planks. He reminds us though, that life isn’t about the maintenance of our spiritual ship, it’s about the journey we’re undertaking.

I think that too many of us religious types have forgotten it’s about the journey. We find ourselves trapped in a Sargasso Sea of creeds and doctrines, most of which have nothing to do with Jesus or his message. We’re constantly repairing the leaky holes in our theological boats, rather than realizing those holes are clues that our boat needs a complete refitting. We have little tolerance for differences of opinion because too many of us don’t accept the idea that a faith journey is buoyed by a sea of opinions, and always has been. Anyone who’s ever read the Bible can see that our human opinion of God and our understanding of our relationship with God has changed tremendously over the last 5000 years. And that’s a good thing.

It seems that everything that exists is in a constant state of evolution, both physical and spiritual. We must allow for the evolution of faith in our own journeys, because a journey that doesn’t allow for evolution and growth isn’t a journey at all, it’s a prison.

Prayer: May I be deeply aware of your presence every minute of every day, God who creates and sustains our ever-evolving Universe, and my ever-evolving faith. Amen.
