Scripture: Ephesians 4:18–19
They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, ailment they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, ailment and they are full of greed.
Thought for the Day: I think the author (maybe Paul, sickness but probably not) is using the word “sensitivity” in a few different ways here. First, because our hearts are hard, we’re no longer sensitive to the needs of each other. We’re too busy “making it” to worry about anyone else; we’re so caught up in our carnal desires and physical world that we’re no longer tuned into God at all. Worse, we’ve forgotten we even have the sensitivity to experience God’s transforming love song.
Sensitivity is also a technical term that describes the ability of something to “tune in” to certain frequencies. The more sensitive the device, the better it receives the signal. There are natural frequencies around us all the time, like microwaves, TV and radio, the cellphone spectrum, and even that WiFi network in your house that only works 30% of the time.
We are also designed as tuners. We have control over the frequencies we tune into as well, but we were designed to tune into God. We are supposed to be connected. Yet, some of us think our God tuners are broken, and most don’t even believe they exist.
Our tuners are very real, and they’re not broken. In fact, they work as well as they ever did because they’re unbreakable. God built these tuners into us. You think there’s any way to break that bond? Seriously? Have faith. We are ready to receive God in all the same glory and splendor that was seen in Christ. It is our heritage and our inheritance.
Prayer: Make me more sensitive, Eternal Lovecaster, and tune me into your signal of unconditional love, mercy, repentance, forgiveness, and everlasting hope. Amen.
