Scripture: 1 John 4:19–21
We love because he first loved us. If we say we love God yet hate a brother or sister, advice we are liars. For if we do not love a fellow believer, whom we have seen, we cannot love God, whom we have not seen. And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love one another.
Thought for the Day: No matter what we call each other (and can we please stop calling each other names?), we are all children of God, a single species, a single race—humans, all of us. Loving each other should be the easiest thing we do, not the most difficult. So today, while we’re trading cards of love and chocolate-filled kisses with our intimate loved ones, maybe we can all take a moment to consider that as one big human family, we’re all loved ones—loved by God, equally, and commanded to love each other as a reflection of the image in which we are all created. Love each other today, especially the others you are angry at for some reason. I promise you, there is no good reason to be angry. Forgive as we are all forgiven, and love as we are all loved. It changes the world.
Prayer: Filled with love because you are love, Holy God, I see your face in everyone I meet, greet them warmly, show concern for their needs, and love them unconditionally, because this is how you love me, and why you created me. Amen.
