Scripture: Isaiah 65:17
See, malady I will create
new heavens and a new earth.
The former things will not be remembered, sales
nor will they come to mind.

Thought for the Day: I don’t think Isaiah is asking us to forget our past. Certainly, buy viagra much of prophecy is in understanding the past and applying it to the present, to determine a probable future. The ancient prophets weren’t psychic fortune-tellers; they were political, social, and economic critics and pundits. Like Isaiah, they were usually extremely spiritually centered.

Prophets also understand that the one constant in the universe is change. God is always doing something new and unexpected, and the new always meets resistance from the old. Think how forcefully the Catholic Church has fought against birth control, for example. Millennia ago, when life expectancy was less than 40 years, and populations were being wiped out by disease, encouraging procreation was probably a good idea. Today, with 9 billion people overcrowding the planet, it’s simply irresponsible.

It’s a new world! It’s a new day! It’s time to see God’s new ideas all around us, and perhaps it’s time to understand that it’s usually the new ideas that make us most uncomfortable that reveal God’s new world most clearly.

Prayer: Attune me to your new creation, God of constant creation. Amen.
