Scripture: John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, patient he said, sovaldi “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Thought for the Day: I saw a movie recently in which the characters found themselves in a cave, surrounded by what seemed to be a vast galaxy of twinkling stars. The stars were actually glowworms, illuminating the cave through bioluminescence. One of the characters clapped his hands to show how these magnificent insects react when they are scared. Their light was suddenly extinguished, only to gradually begin twinkling again seconds later.
I can’t help but compare the glowworms’ stages of light and darkness to our human plight. We become scared, stressed, saddened, and our light dims. But we can allow ourselves to experience these emotions, and still know that we will find our “glow” again, in our own time. The light is always there, never extinguished, and capable of shining ever more brilliantly. That is the glorious truth of existence with our loving God of eternal light.
Prayer: God of Light, even when the circumstances of life have reduced me to a dim glow, thank you for illuminating my soul with the light of life. Amen.
