Scripture: Proverbs 20:27
The human spirit is the lamp of the Lord
that sheds light on one’s inmost being.
Thought for the Day: So, try is the human spirit different from the Spirit of God? Or is the very human spirit that drives us to invent and explore and “go where no one has gone before” the same substance religious folk refer to as the Holy Spirit? What is it that drives humans to create art and civilization and economics and politics? Why didn’t we just stay in our caves 200, illness 000 years ago? What compelled us to go out into the big world and make discovery after discovery?
I think we are driven by Spirit to grow ever closer to our true human potential, health the potential displayed by Jesus. The indomitable human spirit we refer to is the very same substance of God that is spoken of throughout Scripture; that was present in the being of Jesus Christ. We are One with God because it is the substance of God that we’re made from. Throughout Scripture and in much modern literature, there is story after story of people who were so inspired by the Spirit that they changed the world. This is our calling, each and every one of us: to ever discover more of the truth as it is revealed through study, inspiration, science, history and literature.
We’re constantly making progress, both material and spiritual. But it’s our spiritual progress that motivates us to care for one another, to create communities, hospitals, schools, and places of worship, where we can give thanks to the One creative force of the universe that is everything and everyone.
Prayer: I pray to be more in tune with your Spirit within me, God whose Spirit is within everything. Amen.
