Scripture: Jeremiah 4:23
I looked at the earth, no rx
and it was formless and empty;
and at the heavens, seek
and their light was gone.
Thought for the Day: I must confess the metaphor of God as light is very powerful for me. While I think it is possible to live a nice, search happy, virtuous life without believing in God, my experience is that with God, a good life becomes an astoundingly great life. I read somewhere recently that experience is the result of bad decisions. It’s true, but experience grows out of our good decisions, too.
And after all, good, bad, who’s to say but God? What if our “bad” decisions are what ultimately lead us to a completely new life lived in God? Were they still bad decisions?
Sometimes I forget that without the darkness, the light would have nothing to define. So maybe the darkness is as much a blessing as the light. And after all, everything is God, so the darkness can’t really be bad.
Prayer: I don’t mind the dark, because I know you define even the darkness, for you define everything, Holy God. Amen.
